It goes without being said that being discovered, as a singing talent, is an unspoken dream for many of us who enjoy crooning along to a good tune.
However, this distant dream turned into reality for our local truck driver who hails from Perak, Thiagaraja Subramaniam, when renowned music director, D Imman, discovered him.
Imman has always been one for bold experiments, constantly introducing new singing talents into the music industry. But him discovering a truck driver is unexpected to say the very least.
Imman took it to his social media to introduce Thiagaraja who lent vocals to Prabhu Deva’s upcoming Pon Manickavel saying “Happy to introduce a Malaysian Tamil singing talent Thiagaraja Subramaniam who is a truck driver! Pleasant surprise to spot the singing talent in him n I can’t wait to show it to the world!”
However, not all netizens seem to be too happy for Thiagaraja, taking it to the comments section on Imman’s social media pages to express their frustration of being ‘overlooked’ by the composer.
Other Malaysian netizens, however, are proud of their fellow Malaysian and have expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards Imman for extending a chance to Thiagaraja to try his hand in the arena.
We at Raaga are definitely with our netizens, vibing Malaysian pride for our Malaysian talents! You’ve done well for yourself Mr. Thiagaraja!
Pon Manickavel is an upcoming action-thriller directed by A.C. Mugil Chellapan. Starring Indian Michael Jackson, Prabhu Deva and Nivetha Pethuraj in lead, the rest of the cast line-up is yet to be revealed. This will be Prabhu Deva’s first role as a police officer in Tamil cinema and we are definitely looking forward to its release. Stay tuned with us at Raaga for more updates on this story!
