It’s been a busy year for our Ministry of Youth and Sports as they launch several initiatives to encourage sporting activities and empower youths.
Find out what they’ve done and how you can benefit from them
#1 Free KLAS Renang for B40 children
To reduce the number of drowning cases amongst the B40 community, free swimming classes for B40 children are being offered since May 2023.
First phase of the Kemahiran Latihan Asas Sukan (KLAS) Renang was well received. 739 participants between the ages of 6 and 12 mastered basic swimming skills, which included water confidence and a variety of swimming techniques.
Following its positive response, KLAS Renang, currently in its second phase, has been extended to 36 locations in the country, with an estimated participation of 5,760 kids. To sign up for the program, all you need to do is fill up a form. Successful applicants will be contacted by an admin.
Additionally, KLAS Renang has been made available to senior citizens and OKUs at a few locations in Johor and Negeri Sembilan too!
#2 Schools can use stadiums for their sports events for free
Your child’s next sports day could very well be at the iconic Bukit Jalil National Stadium. 😍
Earlier this year, the Ministry of Youth and Sports announced that facilities managed by Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia (PSM) can be used by schools for sporting-related activities at no additional charge! As of today, PSM has received 19 applications, with 17 having been approved.
Stadiums and facilities available for this purpose include Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Jalan Duta Sports Complex, and Bukit Kiara Sports Complex.
Schools that are interested can get more info about this initiative and submit their application on PSM’s website.
#3 Every sporting association will get a home base
The 1 Sukan 1 Fasiliti (1 Sport 1 Facility) initiative has been launched to ensure that every national sports association has a permanent training facility.

Doing so allows these associations to improve their administrative work and processes, while providing a more supportive ecosystem for athletes to train in. At the same time, it’s also making use of current sports facilities in the country. 👍
#4 Affordable accommodation at only RM10 a day
In September, the Youth Capsule @IYCResidence opened its doors. Priced at RM10/day, the hostel caters to Malaysians aged 18 to 40 looking for a job in the city, currently working but don’t have a place to stay, or undergoing industrial trainings.
It’s managed by the International Youth Centre (IYC) and located in Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras. There are 5 dorms available with a total of 54 beds that are fitted with necessities such as pillows, blankets, and bedsheets. Common facilities include a kitchen with cooking appliances, self-service laundry, and wifi.
Reservations and enquiries can be made to IYC at 03 9171 9204/5.
