Did you ever stop and think about how often we are told to change our appearance? Body shaming has become a common unhealthy practice in today’s society.
Body shaming is criticizing ones appearance, through a judgment or comparison to another person, this can cause some serious emotional discomfort and stress on someone that has experienced body shaming. Many participate in this, not knowing body shaming through any from of communications is a serious offence.
According to Section 233 (1) (b) Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), if found guilty of the offence, the offender can be fined no more than RM50,000 or imprisonment for no more than a year, or both.
Body shaming also could get one charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code, any person who insults the modesty of a person by word, through sound, gesture or exhibits any object intentionally, shall be punished for a term which may extend to five years or be fined or both.
