Today is World Diabetes Day, as it coincides the day Insulin was discovered by Frederick Banting, Charles Best and John James Rickard.
The theme this year is “Eyes on Diabetes” and focuses on screening for type 2 diabetes. There are about 415 million of adults living with diabetes around the world, estimated about 642 million to be affected by 2040.
What is type 2 diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes is the most common type, which means your body does not use the insulin produced properly and causes blood sugar levels to rise higher than normal.
An uncontrolled diabetes is diabetic retinopathy where the blood vessels in the retina multiply and causes vision loss or blindness.
Preventing Type 2 Diabetes:
1) Lose weight
2) Be Active
3) Eat Healthily
4) Lower your stress
