#1 Tamil Nadu

Traditionally, the women of Tamil Nadu wear a saree style called Madisaru. A petticoat or a blouse is optional to wear this type of saree-draping style. The upper half is pleated like a normal saree and the lower half draped like a loincloth.

On the other hand, men wear a dhoti without a top, and use a scarf called Angavastra to drape over their shoulder.
#2 Kerala

Men in Kerala wear a dhoti wrapped around their waist and tucked at the front. To complete this outfit, they wear a top and place a piece of square fabric with a coloured narrow border on each sides over their shoulder.

Sarees worn by women in this state are made of silk and embellished in a similar way.
#3 Andhra Pradesh

The men in Andhra Pradesh would generally wear a pancha (similar to the dhoti) and a shirt or kurta. Meanwhile, the women wear saree and underneath it a blouse and a petticoat. Both men and women wear sandals/chappals as footwear.
#4 Gujarat

Men in Gujarat wear a kurta that falls to the waist or above the thighs, along with a dhoti. Occasionally, they also wear a turban as a headdress.

Gujarati women’s traditional outfit consists of a saree, petticoat, and a choli. These garments are known to be of vibrant colours.
#5 Punjab

Men usually wear the kurta with a pyjama (looser, baggy pant tied with a drawstring), though it can also be paired with lungi, dhoti, or even jeans.

Women traditionally wear the Punjabi ghagra; a four-piece outfit which consists of a headscarf, kurta, ghagra and either a Punjabi salwar (baggy trousers with folds) or a suthan (tight-fitting trousers).
#6 Uttar Pradesh

The Salwar Kameez is especially popular among the women in Uttar Pradesh, whereas the men wear kurta and pyjama along with a headdress such as pagri. They also wear a Sherwani dress (pictured below) for special festive occasions.
