Thousands of people paid respect to this doctor loved by many. He is known as the 20-rupees doctor. Dr. V Balasubramaniam passed away from a cardiac arrest on friday. He is known as the 20-rupees doctor because that was the maximum fee he charged any of his patients.

He had a few clinic serving the poor in Theni, Chennimalai, Erode and Coimbatore. When he started consultations, he only charged patients Rs 2 and increased the fee in small amounts. 

His patients regard his of his pure kindness, generosity and affection towards his patients. For those who had no money, he would offer free services. 

On Sunday, thousands lined up to light candles and offer prayers. His patients said “He was a man of gold”. His memory and good deeds will live on through his patients.
