Junebug Weddings is world-renowned for a reason. Every couple looking for an elaborate wedding is sure to visit the site at least once (if not 10 times) to get inspired and eventually plan the wedding of their dreams. Recently, our very own Malaysian, Vinoth Raj Pillai was featured on the site! * gasp *

In an annual effort to honour photographers from around the world who capture and eternalize the union of love, Junebug Weddings puts together some lists featuring these photographers and their works.

Pillai is a wedding photographer who finds immense joy in immortalizing romance and love stories. One among thousands, he decided to submit his work to the blog hoping to make the prestigious list of ‘Top 50 Engagement Photos In The World’.

In a quick chat with him, we asked if he actually expected to make the list. He threw us a sheepish smile and said “ I actually kinda believed in my work this time. Say a 60/40 believe?”

The photo that bagged him the win is a monochromatic still that features silhouettes of a couple leaping for joy.

Vinoth took it to Instagram to announce his win and in a matter of days his achievement took the local photography community by storm and later spilled on to every other Malaysian’s social media news feed!

Best of the Best Engagement photos of 2019 - I’m still over the moon with this. To have my work be part of the top 50 engagement photos in the world is something I've dreamed of, and it's now reality. Thank you @junebugweddings for this opportunity and thank you fellow judges, @ah_lovestories @wanderingwoo and @tintedphotography for not only picking my photo, but also for taking your time to scour through so many other brilliant images! This is also a shout out to my ever amazing clients for trusting me to create my vision and for their patience. And to my loved ones, thank you for believing in me. Amma, now you can proudly tell everyone why I left my other career :D

Picking up photography in 2006 while pursuing a degree in engineering, Vinoth began his journey with this artform as he felt it was a great avenue for him to tell stories while expressing the intricacies of his mind.  Following his graduation, he committed himself to shooting events on the weekends while holding down a fulltime job.

Having learnt the industry like the back of his hand, Vinoth decided to give up his job to pursue photography as a career path. That is one bold move, we must say! Currently, Vinoth dabbles in destination wedding photography that has taken him to places such as India, New Zeland, Italy and Iceland.

We did ask him if he has anything to say to aspiring photographers who are struggling to hone their skills or those who just can’t seem to be inspired. All he had to say is “Believe in your work, stick to your style. And when you think you're stuck in a rut, take a break find inspirations in other forms of art. When you treat yourself right, everything tends to fall into place.

That is some inspiring words from a man so young. We wish you well in your journey. Continue to grow to be the best you can be Mr. Vinoth Raj Pillai. You have truly made unbelievers question their unbelief.
