With the announcements of the Malaysia, Singapore borders re-opening, Malaysians that commute back and forth between the borders are excited to return to pre COVID-19 days.

The latest announcement by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, has verified that only 2,000 people are allowed to use the Periodic Commuting Arrangement daily basis for both Malaysians and Singaporeans commuting between both countries.

Malaysians and Singaporeans who hold long-term immigration passes can begin using the Periodic Commuting Arrangement beginning Aug 10.

As for the Reciprocal Green Lane travel scheme limits only 400 people from each country nt to travel for official or important business purposes on a weekly basis.

"The limit of users set for both facilities will be reviewed from time to time to see the necessity for it to be added and this will depend on the daily cases of Covid-19 (infections).” The minster said.

"It is important to note that the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for health and commuting process will only be announced in detail 10 days before Aug 10," he told a press conference at the Parliament building.

However, there are two other categories of cross-border travels for Malaysians and Singaporeans to commute between both countries, these will involve between 200,000 and 250,000 people.

However, he said the other two categories are still being discussed between the governments of both countries.

"We need more time. The approval for the last two categories is dependent upon both nations' capacity to conduct Covid-19 screenings for workers and the success of the RGA and PCA schemes." He added.
