Never limit your definition of a mother to the one you’re born from,
For there are many ‘mothers’ out there who still care for you like you’re their own…
Mother’s Day is around the corner and we can expect social media to fire off plenty of mum-inspired goodness. And of course memes about the one friend in every group that fill the mom shoes perfectly.
However, we’re going to tell you now about a real motherly figure who you don’t know much about, but plays a huge role as for everyone here at the Raaga HQ.
Amma Mallika Paranggodan is our longest-serving staff in Astro Radio.
What does she do, you wonder? Well, she’s our tea-lady who not only makes crazily satisfying tea and coffee, but also keeps our energy up with her jovial attitude!
Our unsung ‘hero’ from Kota Damansara is very dedicated to her job — she never fails to put a smile on the face of those on the receiving end of her cuppa! Her secret? A little less hurry, and a lot more love!
She makes about 80 – 90 cups of coffee a day and what makes her extra special (just like her drinks) is that she remembers how exactly every single person would want it, just like how she knows her children love it!
When asked, she just went on and on saying that one person likes it with less sugar, one likes it strong, another loves ‘kopi kosong’ and we were just there like… WOW! Talk about memory power!
Confiding to us, Malika Amma said she was very afraid to join the organization when she got the offer for she didn’t know any other language except Tamil.
“I cried when I had to come here because I was told that everyone here speaks only English and I don’t understand the language at all. But over the years, I learnt how to speak a little and they’ve all been very nice to me. It’s been 24 years, and now I feel like crying again, not because I don’t want to be here, but because I don’t want to leave,”

Malika Amma and her husband
It never really matters whether we are related or not,
What really matters is that to us, you really mean A LOT!
Thank you for your love and dedication, Malika Amma. Get some well-deserved rest!
Here’s a little throwback to her retirement-lunch party!
We’re sure you have one of those people as well! This Mother’s Day, why don’t we send some love to all of them?
