Director Mani Ratnam’s brought us the 2019 blockbuster Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. And now the word is out that he’s working on Ponniyin Selvan, his dream project that has been in the making for over a decade. The on-screen adaptation of Kalki Krishanmorrthy's novel, the story of Ponniyin Selvan has been a dream project for many filmmakers including the legendary MGR who has tried to materialise the film numerous times by failing to do so.
Latest updates of the much awaited film is that it is now over 70% complete shoot-wise, and that Chiyaan Vikram has now joined the cast to complete his portion of the film. He is rumoured to be playing the part of the Chola King Adithya Karikaalan.
Ponniyin Selvan shoots are in full swing and are expected to complete shoots by March 5. The latest reports suggest that the ambitious project is being made on a whopping budget of 278 Million Ringgit. The first part of the film is expected to release Deepavali this year.
