25 year-old Lam Shu Jie and her team of researchers could have found a way to kill the Superbug, an antibiotic-resistant bacteria. This type of bacteria is dangerous due to its ability to resist antibiotics, which can result in long term illnesses and sometimes death.

The new treatment method that Lam and her team from Melbourne School of Engineering found uses structurally nano-engineered anti-microbial peptide polymers (SNAPPs). SNAPPs are able to kill Superbugs without hurting the body's healthy cells. With this breakthrough, it is believed that many infectious diseases can soon be cured.
Lam wants to continue more research in the medical field and will be submitting her PhD thesis in November.
