Sangeeta Retnakumar, the 12-year-old rising star in ice skating won 5 gold medals in Ice Skating Institute (ISI) Asia Final Championship Series in Bangkok. She’s dreaming to be an Olympian one day and is doing whatever it takes to make it a reality.

Not only that, Sangeeta, who represents Sunway Pyramid Ice Academy, took part and won in the Freestyle 4, Solo Comp F4, Footwork F4, Open FS Silver and Drama Sport FS4 events. What an achievement.

This little rising star was one of the 128 participants from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines in the competition, which ended on Saturday at the Rink Ice Arena of Central Plaza Grand Rama 9.

She began competing in the sport when she was seven and has won many skating competitions in Asia. Sangeetha dedicated her victory to her late grandmother, Raja Hispery Muthu, and is forever thankful to her parents for allowing her to do what she wants.

Her next endeavor will be the Malaysian Nationals, followed by Skate Asia 2020 in August, and Skate Hong Kong in November. We can't wait to witness what is in store for this little girl!

“She wakes up at 4 in the morning and goes for training” said her mother, Gayateri,40. It’s great to see how Sangeeta is already inspiring the younger generation out there.

Sangeeta’s dream is to qualify for the Winter Olympics and her parents are going all out to support Sangeeta’s dreams despite the challenges. Sangeeta’s father, A. Retnakumar mentioned that this sport is super expensive. "The cost for coaching fees, shoes, costumes and travel expenses are pricy, and we really hope she can get sponsors so she can fulfill her dreams."

All the best Sangeeta! Your dedication and discipline is a world-class inspiration. May it take you beyond your dreams!
