Director SP Jananathan passed away due to a cardiac arrest. The filmmaker was in a critical state and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai, India.
Born on May 7, 1959, Jananathan made his debut with Iyarkai in 2003, which won the Indian National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. Iyarkai has been a fan favorite and earned the status of a timeless classic over the years.
His last work Laabam, stars Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan in lead roles, and is yet to be released. Vijay was one of the first to pay tribute to the filmmaker.
