It is durian season and Malaysians can’t get enough of the ‘king of fruit’! Despite the slow global economy, Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority expects 2020 to be an optimistic year for the durian industry. Many durian farmers from across Malaysia are bringing their offerings online.
While the Durian fruit industry has come up with solutions to overcome the challenges following the pandemic, one durian framer from Kampung Tengah, Segamat has come up with a spooky way to deal with his durian troubles.

A 61-year-old farmer, who has been facing trouble with thieves stealing from his orchard, came up with ghostly solution — using the popular local folklore "pocong" — a spirit that is shrouded in white cloth. This idea was to scare off thieves that steal during the night.
He even added burning incense to enhance the scary effect, "Sometimes I even scare myself when I return alone to pick up the durians, thanks to the smell of the burning incense." He said .
This is not the first idea the farmer came up with, previously he purchased a couple of tiger dolls worth RM350 to scare the thieves from coming into his farm, sadly the idea didn’t get the expected results.

This time with spending of only RM8, he managed scraped up some cardboard boxes and white cloth to bring two pocongs to life. And the results were more than pleasing.
The farmer doesn’t mind sharing the fruits with the locals that just wish to have a taste, but based on the number of durian missing it is clear that the thieves are looking to make a quick buck out of it.
