Director Shankar’s mother S. Muthulakshmi passed away yesterday due to age-related health issues in Chennai, India. She was 88-years-old at the time of her death.
Condolence messages have been pouring in from Kollywood celebrities and fans on social media. Shankar has stated in many interviews that he is very close to his mother and that she was proud of his achievements in Tamil cinema. Shankar is known for his grandeur style of filmmaking.
Shankar is considered as one of the best filmmakers in the history of Indian Cinema. He rose to fame with his back-to-back superhit films. He is often regarded as Steven Spielberg of Indian Cinema. His first film as a director was Gentleman in 1993. He made his debut in Bollywood with Anil Kapoor starrer Nayak (2001). Some of his hit projects include Jeans (1999), Shivaji (2007), Enthiran (2010), Naban (2012) ,and I (2014) .
Shankar's upcoming projects are 'Indian 2' starring Kamal Haasan, 'RC15' starring Ram Charan Teja and the Hindi remake of 'Anniyan' with Ranveer Singh reprising the triple characters that Vikram played in the original.
