A Chinese man ended his 24-year search traveling over 500,000km on a motorbike across the country, after being reunited with his long lost son.
Guo Gangtang's son had been snatched when he was two-years-old, by human traffickers in front of their home in the province of Shandong, China
The events of Guo Gangtang and his son's disappearance inspired the 2015 movie Lost and Love, which starred Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau.
After his 2-year-old son was kidnapped, Guo Gangtang scoured nearly all of China, traveling more than 500,000km by motorcycle in a decades-long hunt for his son.
Guo, now 51, has handed out countless fliers since 1997, the South China Morning Post reported. He flew a flag on the back of his motorcycle with his son’s picture on it. He begged for money and slept under bridges. He broke bones in traffic crashes, faced highway robbers and wore out 10 motorcycles.
Despite his efforts, months turned to years, years stretched into a decade, and then that decade went over 24 years.
But Guo Gangtang never stopped looking.
Guo and his wife have been reunited with their son, Guo Xinzhen, who is now in his mid-20s.
During the reunion, the long-suffering parents buried their heads into the young man’s shoulder and wailed as they saw him for the first time in 24 years.
The local police had confirmed the son's identity through DNA tests.
Officials have detained two suspects who are believed to be involved in the kidnaping, the officials have not released information about how they identified Tang, 45, and Hu, 56, as kidnapping suspects, or how they came to believe this was the boy who was snatched 24 years ago.
