Vijayakanth has been staying away from the limelight due to his ongoing health issues. He was last seen in a cop film titled Virudhagiri.
Besides acting in the 2010 film, he had also written and directed the film, which was inspired by the Hollywood hit Taken. Later, he made a cameo appearance in the 2015 film Sagaptham, which marked the acting debut of his son, Shanmuga Pandian.
Vijayakanth was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai, India as his health deteriorated and started experiencing breathing difficulties. Following which, he was rushed to the hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit.
The news comes as a shock to fans and celebrities, who are worried about his health.
A statement was released on the behalf of Vijayakanth that he was taken to the hospital for a routine health check-up and was in good health.
He is expected to be discharged in a couple of days, however, fans are still worried during these uncertain times.
Vijayakanth had contracted COVID-19 last year. His symptoms were mild at the time. Despite his pre-existing health conditions, including kidney and liver ailments, the actor managed to recover from the infection.
