Pictures of the ‘Dinosaur eggs’ went viral on social media when farmers in India stumbled upon them while digging the Venkatan pond for soil.
However, the excitement was short lived as archaeology enthusiasts identified them as concretions. Comcretions are hard, compact mass of matter formed by precipitation of mineral cement in spaces between particles. More than 25 concretions were found in Kunnam, India.
The Times of India reported that ammonite was a large and diverse group of marine species that originated around 416 million years ago during the Devonian period. The group of experts found ammonium sediment in a water body called a quinine tank. Ammonites were large and diverse marine species that arose during the Devonian period.
"Marine species must have been trapped in the concurrent process for centuries. It was misquoted as a dinosaur egg, " quoted, one of the archeologists.
In another incident, about 20-25 spherical objects were found by locals. These structures were also claimed to be dinosaur eggs. As the Indian District of Perambalur and Ariyalur have a history of fossils being found, locals had believed them to be dinosaur eggs.
