Many wedding dreams, engagement parties and social events were stuck in a limbo after all events were called off after the implementation of MCO. Some faced large amount of financial losses canceling their events at the last minute.

Now as Malaysians enter the New Normal; social events are beginning to make a comeback. These include wedding receptions, engagement parties, reunion gatherings and religious events - from July 1.

weddings & social events allowed from 1st of july

Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob made this announcement in a press conference. He highlighted the SOPs for social events, limiting the number of attendees to 250, ensuring social distancing and registering of guests must be followed by those planning social gatherings.

"We have decided to put a limit to how long these events can be held, which is between three and five hours. We believe the time given is sufficient to host events," the minister said.

The Senior minister said food to be served in the events should be handled by servers , rather than a self-service that most events are accustomed to. Event attendees will have to go through a temperature check and register via the MySejahtera contact tracing app or record attendance manually before entering the event venue.

"Those with symptoms such as cough and flu are advised not to attend social gatherings and it is best if everyone present has a face mask on," he said.

It is also strongly advised not to organise social events if one does not have the confidence to control the crowd and ensure social distancing among guests.

Remember that police are monitoring and checking to ensure the SOPs are followed. If you can't be sure that you can handle the crowd, then it is best not to organise social events,"  he said.
