Vettai, first premiered in 2010 and immediately garnered immense support with viewerships spread across Singapore and Malaysia. At Singapore’s Pradhana Vizha awards, the show swept up 4 awards (including Best Actor for Shabir’s performance as Nantha). Since its debut on a popular streaming platform last year, the series has seen a resurgence in popularity with a wider regional audience.

While the show was a huge success, it was the theme song that really drove it over the edge. Rather than acting as a filler for the show’s introduction, the track shook up the local soundtrack industry. Fans couldn’t get enough of it! 

Alongside Shabir,  two artists also lent their voices to the song. Firstly, Eugenia Yip from the Singaporean jazz-funk band, The Steve McQueens with her haunting and ethereal vocals. After transitioning to a heart-thumping EDM beat, Yogi B, the godfather of Tamil rap, comes in with his explosive lyrics to showcase his mastery of cadence and flow.

This is the FIFTH AND FINAL season that Shabir will be working on the soundtrack for the Vettai franchise. Although he worked on the first four songs on his own, this time he is not alone.

25-year-old producer Buvan, was just 10 years old when he heard the first soundtrack during its release. As a huge fan of the soundtrack and the series, he had to calm his nerves and deliver his best for the theme song; knowing that the series has a huge fan base and that the responsibility to satisfy everybody’s expectations rests on his shoulders too.
