Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir has declared his first reform in education this year as acting Education Minister, and it is a big one. English will once again be the teaching language medium for Science and Maths. 

He gave his briefing on the reasoning behind the decision in a special meeting with Education Ministry officials, where the video was later uploaded on social media.

He believes that Math and Science are not in "indigenous fields of knowledge" to us and therefore should be rightfully taught in English.

"Of course my views are not always  popular or acceptable to many people but I feel we have to push certain things so that our children grow up and are able to tackle the problems of adult life - that is the purpose of education", said Tun Dr Mahathir in his speech.

He mentioned how the collaboration and unity between the people is important, moreover that we are a multi cultural nation and "much of Malaysia's development is based on the good working relationship between the races". 

No matter the language or race, unity between everyone is important. There will be obstacles and challenges with reforms, but the ultimate goal is the creation of a better nation and it is the role of the leaders and the people to achieve it together.
