Monsoon season has its own special place in the hearts of many Malaysians. Rain lovers enjoy the cool weather and nothing beats the thrill of long car rides while listening to your favourite songs. However, the rainy season could cause unwanted troubles and illness if you don’t take precautions. Here’s a list of things to take note of during the monsoon season to keep you safe.
- Maintain Personal Hygiene
The first thing you should do is practice good hygiene. There are many viruses and bacteria lurking around us waiting to attack those of us with weak immune systems.
- Stay informed
Make sure that you take the time to watch the news for weather updates. Knowing the weather ahead can help you plan earlier and prepare for flood warnings.
-Do not eat raw food
Raw vegetables and meat may carry germs during monsoon. Washing them thoroughly and cooking them is crucial. This way, you can avoid contracting dangerous water-borne diseases.
- Drink Boiled Water
Make sure you drink only boiled water. Contaminated water may put you at risk of contracting water-borne diseases.
-Have evacuation plans
It’s always good to prepare for the worst during the rainy season, mainly flooding. Your checklist should include an evacuation plan. Start with “Don’t panic” then, proceed to where you and your family would go in case the situation gets really bad. Where will you park your car and who is the fittest person to drive under heavy downpour? If you’re dealing with kids, assign them roles and explain the different colour alerts.
The rainy season is a blessing for every life. While some may find it difficult to carry out their daily routines, preparation is key.
Remember to stay safe and healthy this rainy season, and enjoy the amazing weather brought about by the cool breeze!
