Batu Ferringhi is set to be decleared smoke-free zone this month and we are just as shocked as you are!
The popular party stretch in Penang is going to be the island’s first no-smoking tourism zone.
Just so smokers out there are clear: Smoking will not be allowed at “open spaces, beachfronts, eateries, beach clubs, food courts, resorts, bungalows and shopping complexes”.
Reports say the smoke-free zone will be from the Floating Mosque all the way to the Bayview Beach Resort along Jalan Batu Ferringhi.
Besides Batu Ferringhi, there will also be designated non-smoking areas in all the five districts in Penang! They are Bayan Baru, Balik Pulau , Bandar Sunway in Sebarang Jaya, Bertam and Nibong Tebal.
To have some sort of compromise on the matter, designated smoking areas will be set up.
Errant smokers caught smoking at non-smoking areas will be issued with a compound between RM250 and RM500.
