Kumari Kandam refers to a mythical lost continent with an ancient Tamil civilization, located south of present-day India in the Indian Ocean. In the 19th century, a section of the European and American scholars speculated the existence of a submerged continent called Lemuria, located between Africa, Australia, India and Madagascar. A section of Tamil scholars adapted this theory, connecting it to the Pandyan legends of lands lost to the ocean, as described in ancient Tamil literature.
According to these writers, an ancient Tamil civilization existed on Lemuria, before it was lost to the sea in a catastrophic event.
Recently, archaeologists in Australia have found Aboriginal artifacts on the Australasian seabed. Hundreds of ancient stone tools made by Australia's indigenous people at least 7,000 years ago were discovered 2 meters underwater off the remote Western Australia coast, the research published in the PLOS ONE journal said.
A second site nearby revealed traces of human activity 14 meters below sea level dating back at least 8,500 years…though researchers believe both sites may be even more ancient. Early evidence found suggests that both archaeological sites could be older than the last ice age .

Kumari Kandam is believed to be the original Tamil homeland and birthplace of Tamil civilization according to early Tamil literature.
Early findings and descriptions of the Kumari Kandam matching the discovery has stirred speculations…could this be the lost civilization of Kumari Kandam?
The ancient Tamil civilization is believed to be submerged under the sea at the end of the last ice age around the same era as reported by the Australian archeologists.
Australia land mass is also said to be a part of Kumari Kadam that makes many wonder maybe if the discovery found in Australia is a part of the lost Tamil civilization.
