23-year-old Priyanka recently received UK's Diana award for her work in helping and motivating underprivileged students who are academically weak.  She has worked tirelessly, helping up to 3,900 students and counting.

The UK’s Diana award was established in the 1999 by the British government to continue the late Princess Diana's legacy, to recognize young people for their social action and humanitarian work.

The Penangite received the award for her efforts in coaching students and help them realise their potential.

Priyanka, is a final year chemical engineering student…and for the past six years this incredible motivational speaker has been delivering speeches along with her dad R Vairavasundaram, 59, to bring hope and confidence to thousands of students changing their lives for the better.

After being trained to give motivational talks by her father, Priyank founded  SPARK, a student enrichment programme that boosts the potential of learners. The programme is conducted for underprivileged students; and thousands of them have benefited from her efforts!

Last year Priyanka led a group of volunteers to help students from SJKT Jalan Sungai, to coach Year 6 students in mathematics for their UPSR examination.

According to the motivator, initially the students were against the loving the subject but with effort, her team things turned around.

"…However, with our effort, the students saw their results improve drastically. From only 15 per cent of students passing initially, this grew to 89.5 per cent." She added.

Her good work caught the attention of many and the attention of civil activist Datuk Dr Anwar Fazal, who nominated her for the Diana Award this year.

"She was doing great things for the students, with amazing results. She is truly a socially responsible and service-oriented person."

The award was supposed to be held in the UK, due to the pandemic it was held in over a live YouTube Session on the first of July. Priyanka was little disappointed that’s he couldn’t receive the award in person, however she is happy to be recognized.

Priyanka said her aim was to continue inspiring and changing the lives of youngsters.

Congratulations Priyanka Vairavasundaram in winning UK's Diana award! We hope to see more great things from you and SPARK…and more future Malaysian realising their true potential.
