Since June 15, Malaysians have been allowed to participate in outdoor activities such as hiking, camping and jungle trekking — on the condition they are only day trips and in groups of not more than 20 people. This was announced by Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department director of Forest Eco-Parks and State Forest Parks, Mohd Yussainy Md Yusop.
He also reminded the public that the COVID-19 pandemic is not over and there is still possibility of those entering the forest bringing along the virus with them. As such, these S.O.Ps must be followed as a precautionary measure.
"If they get sick or show symptoms like a fever in the forest, it will endanger the rescue team, who will have to make the necessary preparations, including the personal protective equipment (PPE), to rescue them," he added.
Recently, Netizens have been sharing pictures of long queues of hikers waiting for their turn to register their temperature before being allowed to hike, based on the picture there were quite a number of people waiting for their turn to have their temperature checked. Strict S.O.Ps are being followed.
Long queues and procedures aren’t stopping these outdoor enthusiasts, many are willing to wait long hours to enjoy their turn to have a relaxing hike. However, it is hard not to notice the lack of social distancing within the crowd while waiting to have their temperature checked.
It is everyone’s responsibility be vigilant and always practice social distancing. Remember, the war against COVID -19 isn’t over just yet! Be a responsible citizen, for everyone’s sake.
