KLANG: Mrs. Malaysia World 2024, Dr. Shalini Devi Ramachandran, is ready to showcase Malaysia's rich cultural heritage on the global stage at the Mrs. World 2024 pageant in Las Vegas later this month. Her breathtaking national costume, named Puteri Membara Malaysia, has already made history by entering the Malaysia Book of Records for the longest train ever crafted for a national costume, measuring an astounding 121 meters.

Designed by Sarawak-based designer Saran Lagong, the costume is a blend of Malaysia’s iconic batik and songket motifs with modern artistic elements. Its intricate details reflect Malaysia’s cultural richness and creative excellence, making it a standout piece on the international stage.

Datin Harveen Kaur, National Director of Mrs. Malaysia World Sdn Bhd, shared the significance behind the design:

• Red hues symbolize unity, love, and determination.
• Black hues represent sophistication, power, and grace.

“This costume represents the strength, passion, and resilience of Malaysian women while celebrating the country’s vibrant identity and cultural pride,” said Datin Harveen.

At 37, Dr. Shalini is a medical doctor from Selangor who has inspired many with her achievements and transformation. Once weighing 124kg, she overcame diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, and hypothyroidism through disciplined lifestyle changes, achieving an incredible weight of 60kg.

In addition to operating a clinic with her husband, Dr. Yuveneswara Murti, she is:

• A certified sports nutritionist.
• The founder of wellness studios in Malaysia and Singapore.
• A passionate advocate for lifestyle medicine.

At the pageant, Dr. Shalini will also promote sustainable fashion, modeling outfits crafted from vintage sarees and dresses over 30 years old, along with upcycled materials. Her partnership with Kloth Cares, a Malaysian recycling and upcycling initiative, highlights her commitment to the environment.

Through her Go Green Programme, Dr. Shalini educates schoolchildren on:

• Waste reduction and tree planting.
• Indoor planting for fitness spaces.
• Active living through Zumba and fitness activities.

 

Her environmental efforts also extend to underprivileged communities through her collaboration with the Pertubuhan Kesihatan dan Kebajikan Umum Malaysia team in Chow Kit.

Recognition and Impact

Dr. Shalini’s dedication to health, fitness, and sustainability earned her the title of Malaysia’s Most Popular Trainer 2024 at the Nambikkai Star Icon Awards.
