So, something exciting is happening at our building today and it brings back memories from our schooling days. Yes. That’s right! We were visited by a Milo truck guys!!
Tetra Pak ® (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. has joined hands with Nestlé MILO ® UHT, to launch the CAREton project 2019. The project, which is a consumer recycling campaign, will be collaborating with the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) as its latest beneficiary with a new commitment to recycle 35 million drink packs in 2019.
The CAREton project collects and recycles Milo drink packs, which will be processed to make poly Aluminium (polyAl) panel boards and roofing tiles.
CAREton -a word play between care and carton- first started in 2012 as a collaborative effort with EPIC Homes, to develop community-based housing solutions for the Orang Asli communities of Malaysia. To date the project has provided enough roofing tiles and panel boards to build over 150 homes and community infrastructures.
This year, with MBPJ on board as a new beneficiary, the CAREton project aims to extend the same efforts towards the local communities of Petaling Jaya. Aiming to convert the collected drink packs into a total of 1,000 polyAl panel boards, the project seeks to contribute to the Eco Recycling Plaza’s exterior and interior structure, besides community rest areas and town parks.
“We want to urge Malaysians to continue doing their bit by recycling their drink packs and educating others about how easy it is,” said Terrynz Tan, Environment Director for Tetra Pak Malaysia, Singapore & Philippines.
Saying there is always room for improvement in terms of awareness and education, Terrynz stands by a simple method called 3F (Flip, Flat,Flat) when it comes to recycling drink packs.
“One simply has to push the straw back into the pack, flip the flaps to flatten the package and finally, pack it up and drop it off at any of our collection partners,” she said.
“The CAREton project is in line with our global ambition to make 100% of our packaging reusable or recyclable by 2025,” said Ng Su Yen, Business Executive Officer for Nestlé Ready-to-Drink Business Unit, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad.
“With so many Malaysians enjoying our MILO ready-to-drink packs daily, we hope to inculcate better recycling habits be it for adults or children,” she said.
Consumers can drop off their drink packs at any one of the 500 available collection points across Malaysia. Interested parties can find the nearest collection point to them at http://recycle-easy.com.my. Lets reuse, reduce and recycle our way to a greener Malaysia.
