Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah are urging the public to practise self-lockdown as the best hope to prevent a sudden surge in Covid-19 infections, as the daily cases are exceeding over 6,000 daily.
The Health DG said in a recent press conference that hospitals were at a critical stage in terms of bed capacity for Covid-19 patients.
“Humans move, humans gather. Viruses do not assemble. The virus spreads and is contagious when humans move and congregate. So, when we sit at home, we have reduced movement and this will help break the chain of infection,” he said in a recent press conference.
The self imposed lockdown efforts are expected to assist the health ministry to spare some time to improve it’s facilities and readiness by curbing the pandemic following hospitals bed capacity issue as 83% of beds in the intensive care unit (ICU) prepared for Covid-19 patients nationwide were full.
Malaysians are also encouraged to wear two layers of face masks, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had recommended this as it protects against 95% of viruses, especially at high-risk places such as hospitals.
The war against COVID-19 isn't over just yet, let us all do our part in flattening the curve once again.
