So much devastation has been caused in Australia since last year October to due to the bushfires. Another firefighter’s life was lost on duty raising the death toll to 28, and amount of land burned is estimated to be the size of South Korea.

Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said that “Recognising our history of close bilateral ties, the Cabinet has approved plans for Malaysia to provide assistance to Australia in the form of funds and deployment of personnel and strategic assets in the rescue and fire extinguishing operations”.
He mentioned that this event called for global response and it is devastating enough to have consequences in other parts of the world as well.
As of now, the states and territories are primarily responsible for disaster preparedness and response. However, experts have stressed on the need for policy changes where the federal government has to provide help in times like these. They also say that states must be funded better to endure disasters that last as long as this and to train more professionals to tackle these situations effectively.
