It is a rare but a pleasant sight to see two cultures from different backgrounds connect. That is what happened in November 2019 when Pathma Gurusamy from Malaysia and Ng Boon Jun, who is Singaporean, had an interracial wedding which involved a South Indian wedding ceremony at a temple, and a traditional Chinese ceremony as well.

Pathma’s wedding post in a Facebook group went viral, with dozens of reactions and comments. She mentioned how they were so happy and said “both sides of our families got to experience and be a part of each other’s traditions”.
Although they wanted to initially just register their marriage and move in together, the couple had a change of heart and chose to honor both their traditions, and to also respect their parents’ wishes. Both their parents joined in on the Indian and Chinese wedding ceremonies, which included the Chinese wedding gatecrash (wedding door games) and tea ceremony.
