how can being grateful benefit you?

Most of us are often caught up complaining about every little thing in our lives. Sure, some of us may really have problems, however, being grateful for all the little that we have helps rewire our brains and brings great benefits.
According to scientist Dr. Alex Korb , the act of “seeking” the items to be grateful for has as much if not more benefit than the item you are actually grateful for.
Trying to think of things you are grateful for forces you to focus on the positive aspects of your life. 

This simple act increases serotonin production (happy hormones) in your brain!
Basically, just thinking about how you could be grateful sparks brain activity critical to sleep, mood regulation and metabolism. Next time something bad happens and you can’t think of anything to be grateful for, guess what? Just the act of searching for gratitude is beneficial.
Just like everything in life, being grateful gets easier with practice. The practice of gratitude increases your dopamine production, which encourages your brain to seek out more of the same experience. It’s the brain saying, “Oh, do that again” which means the more you are grateful for something, the more you will find something to be grateful for. 
Here are some ways to practice gratitude:
•    Keep a gratitude journal.
•    Tell an employee or a friend something you appreciate about them.
•    Look at yourself in the mirror and think of something you like about yourself.
•    Sit in a quiet place and think about when something went well. How did that feel? Practice that feeling every day for a week.
•    Next time something bad happens consider 5 good things that happened as a result of this event.
•    Write someone a thank you note.
•    Write it down, talk about it, think about it, re-live it, meditate.
