Well, HAPPY WORLD BOOK DAY!

Bookworms will definitely understand the joy of diving into a world where there are endless possibilities and happily ever after-s. But this one’s for those who are yet to be convinced about the many benefits of reading.

Now that we’re all staying home with extra time in hand, why not read some books and expand your knowledge on…just anything at all?

In conjunction with World Book Day, here’s 5 ways you can cultivate good reading habits, for yourself and your children.

1. Read Every Day

It doesn’t matter how many pages you read, rather how much information you gain. So even if it’s one page, progress is still progress. You simply need to get into the habit of opening up a book and reading something every day. This can help you expand your vocabulary because trust us, there’ll always be a new word you discover when you read.

2. Schedule Time To Read

People say that spontaneity is the best part of life but sometimes, we need to plan. Sticking to a time to read will make sure you do so when the time comes. Believe it or not, humans are great at excuses, so if you go through your day thinking that you’ll fit in somewhere to read, chances are that you won’t at all.

There’ll be always something that comes up; a sudden chore, nap time, hunger, or even laziness. If you schedule a reading time, it would help you be more disciplined and make you feel guilty if you don’t follow by. Win-win!

3. Be Accountable

If you need help to stick to your reading commitments, you need to be held accountable and this could be done in various ways. You can join an online book club, start posting on your Instagram, write reviews, or even start a blog.

If you know people are waiting for your review, or that you have to give a review, you would automatically read the book because you don’t want to disappoint others. So in order for you to produce a steady stream of content, you will be continually reading, which is great!

Hello, responsible content creator!

4. Do NOT Pressure Yourself To Finish A Book

So what if you don’t finish a book? We’re just trying to cultivate the habit and the first step to do so is to love it. If you pressure yourself to finish a book, you’re just doing it for the sake of doing it, and that’s not the goal.

If you don’t like what you’re reading, it’s totally okay to put down the book and read another one. Remember, the point is to enjoy the process.

5. Read Online

Well, well… we know that some books that you do want to read might be expensive, or maybe now that you can’t go out, you can’t buy them. But hey, we have an online library that offers you millions of books to read so why worry? It’s just a Google search away!

This time we have is perfect to explore the world of reading. Check out the Malaysian Library  or SYOK for more info.

So, what are you waiting for? Read your boredom away!
