The Tamil New Year, marks the first day of the first month, Chittirai, in the Tamil Calendar. It usually starts with a visit to the temple in the morning, before we start the day. However, the global pandemic COVID-19 changed things up for us.
Due to the MCO, Chittirai Puthaandu was celebrated with quiet streets, and instead, homes filled with people dressed up and dining tables filled with delicious meals.
Malaysia Hindu Sangam president, Datuk RS Mohan Shan said that this is indeed a blessing in disguise, as many people got to be together with their families under one roof, which might not have happened otherwise, provided their schedules.
Besides the Tamil New Year, Vishu for the Malayalees and Vaisakhi for the Sikhs are also celebrated today.
We at RAAGA have been gushing with pride over the united spirit of Malaysians everywhere observing the #MCO, and couldn’t help but want to return the favour.
So we decided to celebrate the Tamil New Year together with everyone, by staging our first ever concert from home on Facebook! We had the most amazing time, as did our superstars…and judging from the comments, everyone was blown away! But if you missed it? Not to worry, we’ve got you covered!
Were you there to celebrate with us? How did your New Year go?
