Bollywood legend Dilip Kumar passed away at a hospital in Mumbai, India today (July 7th) after prolonged illness. He was 98 at the time of his passing.
Dilip Kumar, born Yousuf Khan in Peshawar on December 11th, 1922, was known to generations of film-goers as the 'tragedy king' for his portrayal of the brooding, intense romantic in classics such as "Mughal-e-Azam" and "Devdas".
Kumar was known as a method actor who was never limited to genres, and in a career spanning more than five decades, the prolific legend was part of comedies, dramas, romance pieces, and more.
Some of his best known films include Aan, Daag, Devdas, Madhumati, Azaad, Mughal-e-Azam, Gunga Jamuna, Kranti, Karma, Ram Aur Shyam, among others.
The legend is survived by his wife Saira Banu.
