Diego Maradona has died, aged 60, after suffering a cardiac arrest at a home in Tigre, Argentina. The greatest footballer of his generation had been recovering from the removal of a blood clot on the brain.
The news of Maradona’s passing has sent shockwaves around the world, as he is widely recognised as among the greatest ever players to play the sport and was a cultural icon.
Widely considered as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Maradona had scored an incredible 38 goals in 58 appearances for Barcelona, which he joined in 1982, before moving to Napoli in 1984 and winning two Serie A titles in Naples.
Maradona's pinnacle of glory came when he captained Argentina to win the World Cup in 1986.
Maradona won the World Cup with Argentina in 1986, having knocked England out in the quarter final with the infamous 'Hand of God' goal and another - later voted 'Goal of the Century.'
As well as the triumph in 1986, Maradona also led Argentina to the final of the Italia 90 World Cup and managed them in South Africa in 2010.
