There are over 200 different types of cancer in total, and according to a survey by WHO. More than 1 in 3 people will develop some form of the condition during their lifetime so it's important to be clued-up on the potential warning signs.
Most of us know to get any unusual lumps checked by a doctor, but there are several other more subtle, or less talked-about. These are symptoms that are just as important to know, but are often brushed aside and ignored.
Treatments work best when cancer is detected early, so noticing any unusual changes and getting them checked out sooner rather than later can make all the difference.
Although, most of the time, these symptoms will turn out to be entirely harmless, but it's always best to get them seen by a doctor and talk through your concerns.
Here, medical experts explain more about some of the red flags that many people overlook:
1. Vaginal bleeding that occurs between menstruation periods or after menopause.
2. Lumps in breasts or any other changes detected in breasts.
3. Change in bowel-movement routine.
4. Hoarse voice for more than two weeks.
5. Abnormal nose-bleeding, loss of hearing or ringing ears.
6. Lumps in the neck that has not previously been there.
7. Ulcers that don’t heal, lumps or white or red spots on the mouth.
8. Continuous stomach pain or discomfort.
9. Continuous coughing and traces of blood in phlegm.
If you are experiencing any of the symptoms above, it does not necessarily mean you have cancer, it is always advisable to seek professional help, being aware and vigilant can save lives.
