The secrets to good health aren’t secrets at all, but some of the simplest actions to follow. Being healthy throughout the year can be an awesome feel-good situation especially with the ongoing pandemic.

5 ways to reduce risk of getting sick

Here are 5 tips for preventing colds and the flu according to healthline:

Get Vitamin D

Vitamin D is essential for several reasons, including maintaining healthy bones and teeth. It may also protect against a range of diseases and conditions, such as type 1 diabetes. Spend time in sunlight. Vitamin D is often referred to as “the sunshine vitamin” because the sun is one of the best sources of this nutrient.

Practice good hygiene

The human body can provide places for disease-causing germs and parasites to grow and multiply. These places include the skin and in and around the openings to the body. It is less likely that germs and parasites will get inside the body if people have good personal hygiene habits.

Here are some other ways to practice good hygiene:

-Shower daily.
-Wash your hands before eating or preparing food.
-Wash your hands for 20 seconds and scrub under your fingernails.
-Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
-Carry an alcohol-based hand cleaner for on-the-go use. Disinfect shared surfaces, such as keyboards, telephones, doorknobs, and remote controls.

Exercising

Regular physical activity can improve your muscle strength and boost your endurance. Exercise delivers oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and helps your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. And when your heart and lung health improve, you have more energy to tackle daily chores.

Keeping the air clean

Common colds and the flu are types of respiratory infection. The viruses that cause these illnesses replicate in the mucus membranes that line the respiratory tract, and they can travel through the air in tiny droplets of mucus.  Practice simple steps at home to purify the air around you, such as opening your windows for better ventilation, decorate the living room with indoor plants or something simple as taking your shoes off while at home. Simple steps can go a long way in improving the air quality around you.
