“To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.”

As the saying goes, a 20-year-old gentleman from Manipur has created a replica of Marvel character Iron Man out of electronic waste made up of old televisions and radios. Netizens gave him the nick name “the Tony Stark of Manipur.”

The 20-year-old innovator Ningombam Prem, who hails from Heirok Part-2 village in Thoubal district, did not receive any formal education — but learned simply by observing others.  His previous innovation was a mechanism that produces webbing, inspired by Spiderman’s webshooters.

According to reposts by ANI, the iron man replica suit was made using discarded scrap material — emergency lamps, electronic toys, syringes, speaker frames and even IV-fluid tubes. The idea was persuaded by Prem’s younger brother, which Prem which later agreed to.
"I have always wanted to create a robot since my childhood days. But this craze for Iron Man costume started around 2015. One reason for creating is — I want to add this scientific effect in Manipuri films as most of the stories are based on romantic films," Prem said.

"I collected most of these from electronic waste — radio shops and television. Since we could not afford to buy materials, I have collected all these materials," he added.

The creative innovator also finds work by repairing televisions, radios and emergency lamps at home and also provides services as an electrician.

Although Prem endures financial difficulties not being able to buy expensive items that he wished to be used in his innovations, he understands the situation very well and adapts to alternatives by recycling old electronics. He wishes to create more with his innovative ideas.
