10 Self-Destructive Habits You Need To Say Goodbye To!

10 self-destructive habits you need to say goodbye to!

Moving forward in life is about a commitment to betterment. As we age, we should spend a considerable amount of time mindfully evolving and bettering our craft and ourselves.

In the endeavor, "getting lost" is bound to happen. However, how can our true calling ever be found if we are never lost? Now, that’s something to think about over tea. While you’re at it, it is important to note that sometimes in being lost we engage in self-destructive behavior that doesn’t serve us one bit and only contributes to setting our world on fire. Most times figuratively and sometimes, literally.

Now it can be tempting to overlook these behaviours and live in denial. But that is only going to undo all the effort and hard work that you have put into bringing yourself this far, soldier! So here are a few such habits that you might need to stop right this minute!

1. Thinking of the ‘what ifs’ on loop.
Thinking of or even starting a new endeavour comes with what ifs. What if I fail? What if I let my parents down? Put the what ifs to rest, your thoughts create your reality!

2. Not asking for help even when you need it most.
No man is an island. Humans were made to exist as a community. Never think twice about asking for help from your loved ones and those who support you. We all need some help sometimes. And when you can, pay it forward!

3. Overthinking without putting in any action.
It is best to process things thoroughly before acting. However, overthinking things and just getting yourself stuck in a loop, eventually finding no will to act is not going to do anyone any good. Before you know it, the fire has turned to ashes and it is too late. Put it out while you still can!

4. Being vengeful.

Forgiving is the attribute of the strong. When you forgive, it is never for the other person but for yourself. When you forgive, you find yourself concentrating your energy on creating the reality you desire. Have faith in one of the biggest pillars or Hinduism, Karma, cause she has definitely got your back. If you believe in science, Newton’s Third Law, the Law of Relativity states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Hate is heavy, let it go!

5. Giving importance to other’s perception of you.
You are not here to impress others. You’re here to impress yourself. So rock your walk and your talk! It doesn’t matter how others perceive you. How you perceive yourself is of utmost importance, cause once again, your thoughts create your reality!

6. Comparing your achievements with others.
In life, we are all dealt different exam papers. Comparing your answers with another’s is only going to confuse you and demotivate you or worse still, put you in the path of pride, because fact is your questions aren’t the same as the other person’s! Your journey is about you! So take pride in your stride and celebrate your achievements from your heart!

7. Self-victimising.
Sure, only you know what you are going through and the path you have walked. But seeing yourself as the victim is not going to do you any good. Think like a survivor and you will grow to be a warrior!

8. Escaping through substances
You may think substances such as drugs and alcohol are the only thing keeping you alive, but the fact is, you are only killing yourself slowly. The only way around your problems is through them. So don’t be afraid to go through your thoughts and understand yourself better. Only you can solve your problems.

9. Dwelling in the past.
In the famous words of Saadhguru, if you are depressed it is because you are living in the past. If you are anxious, it is because you are living in the future. Live in the now and be present. You will know peace.

10. Self-isolating.
This is a tough one, especially if you are going through a rough patch or are suffering from invisible illnesses. However, we all need company. Even misery. So find some friends in others and don’t think too much of what others think. Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter won't mind!
