Karthik Sivakumar, born on 25 May 197, who’s better known by his stage name Karthi, is an Indian actor who works in Tamil movies

After Karthi completed his masters degree in the USA, he met director Mani Ratnam who offered him a role in his film Aayutha Ezhuthu. However, Karthi declined the offer and chose to work as an Assistant Director for the Hindi version of the film titled Yuva. 

It was only after his father advised him to take up acting, did Karthi consider acting as a career option. 

Subsequently, when director Ameer approached him to play the titular role in Paruthiveeran, he accepted the offer because he felt the film was compelling. Upon release in January 2007, the film received wide critical acclaim and Karthi`s performance was well received by both the audience and critics.  

His next project was the lead role in Aayirathil Oruvan (2010), an action-adventure film directed by Selvaraghavan. 

In 2022 Karthi starred in Viruman (2022), Ponniyin Selvan: I (2022) and Sardar (2022). 

Karthi is the second son of actor Sivakumar and Lakshmi. He has two siblings; an elder brother - Suriya who's married to actress Jyothika, and a younger sister, Brindha, who is a singer.
