Valverde gets Barca vote of confidence

May 17, 2019

Right man for the job

Barcelona insist manager Ernesto Valverde is the right man to lead the team, despite their disapointing exit in the semifinals of the Champions League.

The Barca president says the board is happy with what Valverde has achieved this season, including winning the Spanish League title and making the final of the Copa Del Rey.

He adds that talks are already underway with the manager, about strengthening the team for next season.

Real get more firepower

Real Madrid have made their first signing ahead of the summer.

Multiple sources say striker Luka Jovic will be joining from Eintracth Frankfurt for 60 million euros.

The Serbia international scored 10 goals for the Bundesliga side in their run to the EUROPA League semis.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid's Santiago Bernebeau stadium has ranked as the best stadium in the world, in terms of the matchday experience, impact on a game and broadcaster appeal.

The ranking - by a branding agency - listed Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich's ground, Tottenham's new stadium, and Man United's Old Trafford in the top five.

Loftus-Cheek sidelined

Chelsea could be without Ruben Loftus-Cheek for up to a year, after the midfielder suffered an Achilles injury in a charity friendly match.

The 23-year-old is definitely out of the Europa League final against Arsenal, and has also been ommited from England's squad for the Nations League semifinals.
