Serena Williams on verge of history after reaching 11th Wimbledon final
Jul 12, 2019
Serena Williams has reached her 11th Wimbledon final, with an easy straight-sets win over Czech Republic's Barbora Strycova.
The result has made the 37-year-old American the oldest Grand Slam women's singles finalist ever, as she continues her bid for an eighth Wimbledon title.
She will also look to match Margaret Court's all-time record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles, and win her first major title since becoming a mum in 2017.
Facing Williams in the final is Simona Halep, who booked her spot with an equally-comfortable victory over Elina Svitolina.

Lewis Hamilton slams British F1 GP scheduling
Lewis Hamilton has criticised the decision to schedule the British F1 GP, on the same day as the finals of the Cricket World Cup, AND the men's singles at Wimbledon.
Sunday's race would have to compete with two other major events for public attention, and Hamilton insists people are going to be switching between channels, not sure what to watch.
The reigning F1 champion will be aiming to complete a record sixth triumph in his home race, but the timing of it in the 2019 calendar is a great frustration for him.

Laurent Koscielny in hot soup over Arsenal future
Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny is reportedly considering buying out the remainder of his contract, so that he can leave on a free transfer.
This, as the club confirmed that their captain has refused to travel to the US with his teammates, for their pre-season tour.
Disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Koscielny, and he's expected to be stripped of the captaincy.
The 33-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the French League, with Bordeaux, Rennes and Lyon all keen to land his signature.
