Retiring Nicol has high hopes for Malaysia's future in squash

Feb 20, 2019

Datuk Nicol David believes the future of Malaysian squash is in safe hands, with several top talents emerging from the junior level.

Her decision to retire at the end of the season has raised questions about Malaysia's prospect of competing at major competitions, but the national squash ace says she has faith in the new generation of players.

Nicol adds that she herself didn't become a world champion overnight, and that it will just take time to mould them into world-class athletes.

One last chance for Sarri?

Maurizio Sarri is rumoured to be one defeat away from being sacked as Chelsea manager.

Insiders say the club's officials have been holding talks about the Italian's future, amid criticism about the team's recent poor outings.

It's believed that IF Sarri gets the sack, his assistant Gianfranco Zola will be made interim boss until the end of the season.

Chelsea will then turn to either Zinedine Zidane or Frank Lampard as a permanent replacement.

Zidane has been out of a job since leaving Real Madrid at the end of last season, while Lampard has impressed in his first management job, at Championship side Derby.

Ronaldo and Koke to meet in Champions League tomorrow

Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to be extra motivated tomorrow morning, when Juventus take on Atletico Madrid in their Champions League first leg last-16 clash.

The Portuguese forward will be meeting Atletico midfielder Koke, whom he has frequently locked horns with in the past.

The pair most notably clashed during a La Liga tie in November 2016, when Koke allegedly shouted a homophobic slur at Ronaldo.

Ronaldo could just use his beef with Koke to help Juve, who have lost four finals since their last triumph in 1996.
