OCM backs move to postpone Tokyo 2020

Mar 25, 2020

The Olympic Council of Malaysia says it fully supports the IOC’s decision to postpone Tokyo 2020 till next year, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

It's glad that the decision was made now, rather than later, as our athletes’ well-being is always its top priority.

Where our athletes go from here will be revealed in the coming days, following discussions with the Youth and Sports Ministry and the respective national sports organisations.

The Olympics, due to begin on July 24th, will now take place no later than the summer of 2021, although it will still be called Tokyo 2020.

The postponement is the first in the Olympics' 124-year history, having only ever been cancelled because of World War II.

Harry Kane should be back in action soon

Tottenham striker Harry Kane says he’s recovering very well, and he should be back to first-team training in no time.

The 26-year-old hasn’t been in action for Spurs since suffering a hamstring injury on New Year’s Day, and it was already suggested he’s making progress ahead of schedule.

With the Premier League suspended until at least April 30th because of the coronavirus outbreak, it remains unclear if, and when Spurs will get the opportunity to resume their attempts to secure a top-four finish, but Kane is confident he will be on the pitch when that time comes.

Spurs, who also lost forward Son Heung-min to injury, have since fallen from sixth to eighth in the standings, and are four points behind fifth-placed Man United.
