Lewis Hamilton is on course for his 90th race victory, after taking pole position for tonight's Italian F1 GP.

He qualified ahead of Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas and McLaren's Carlos Sainz.

Hamilton also managed to pull off the fastest lap in Formula One history during qualifying with an average speed of over 263 kilometers per hour.

Meanwhile, Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen round up the top five on the starting grid at Monza, while Ferrari - who are racing in their home GP - saw both cars fail to make it into the top 10.

Sterling saves England

Raheem Sterling scored a late penalty as England edged past Iceland 1-0 in their Nations League encounter in Reykjavik.

The hosts then blew their chance to equalise almost immediately after they failed to convert a spot-kick of their own deep into stoppage time.

In other selected results, Kylian Mbappe netted the only goal of the game as France overcame Sweden 1-0

Portugal thumped Croatia 4-1

While Belgium defeated Denmark 2-0.

Serena marches on

Serena Williams is through to the last-16 of the US tennis Open, after fighting back from a set down to beat fellow American Sloane Stephens.

Williams will next face Maria Sakkari, as she continues her quest for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam singles title.

Meanwhile, last year's runner-up Daniil Medvedev made the fourth round of the men's draw, with a comfortable win over JJ Wolf.
