jin wei wins on olympic debut

Goh Jin Wei has won her first ever game at the Olympics.

The debutant recorded a straight sets victory over her South African opponent, in her opening group match of the women’s singles badminton event.

Jin Wei says she’s happy with the win, but remains focused on her next games.

This, as men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik lost in straight sets to the top-ranked pair from China this morning.

Both have already qualified for the quarterfinals, with the Malaysians advancing as group runners-up.

Meanwhile, mixed-doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei have received a favorable draw for the quarterfinals.

They will face Kim Won Ho and Jeong Na Eun of South Korea.

The Malaysian shuttlers have a slight advantage over their upcoming opponents, having won two of their previous three encounters.
