Azeem, Shereen Miss Olympic Cut

Malaysian athletes Azeem Fahmi and Shereen Samson Vallabouy have missed out on direct qualification for the upcoming Paris Olympics. 

Azeem took the bronze medal in the 100m event at the Kazakhstan Open but fell short of the 10.20s he needed to qualify for Paris on merit.  

Meanwhile, Shereen won gold in the 400m event but was also outside of the Olympic qualifying time. 

The only path left is for either Azeem or Shereen to get a wild card.

Germany will wrap up their Euro 2024 Group A campaign against Switzerland tomorrow morning.  

The Germans have already qualified for the last-16, while 2nd-placed Switzerland will go though as runners up, if Scotland fail to beat Hungary in the other group match.

Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe continues his recovery from a broken nose after playing in a closed-door friendly against German club Paderborn. 

This, ahead of France’s next Euro match against Poland.

Portugal boss Roberto Martinez has expressed concerns about security that hosted their Euro 2024 match against Turkey. 

The match was interrupted several times after five spectators invaded the pitch to take selfies with Portugal skipper Cristiano Ronaldo.  

Meanwhile, UEFA will wait for the referee’s report before deciding on any further action. 

Portugal defeated Turkey 3-0 to top Group F and qualify for the last-16 with one game to spare.  

Also in Group F, Georgia and the Czech Republic drew 1-1.

In Group E, Belgium defeated Romania 2-0. 

This, and Ukraine’s earlier win against Slovakia means that all 4 teams in the group are level on 3 points each.
