Atletico ends Man United's European dream

Man United have crashed out of the Champions League after a 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the second-leg of their last-16 tie this morning.
Renan Lodi netted the only goal of the game at Old Trafford to send the Spanish club through to the quarterfinals on a 2-1 aggregate.
The defeat means that United finish another campaign empty handed…and are left with only the EPL top four to play for this season.

Elsewhere, Benfica booked their place in the Champions League quarters after beating Ajax 1-0 thanks to a Darwin Nunes winner.
The Portuguese club advances 3-2 on aggregate.

Christian Eriksen has been named in the Denmark squad for their upcoming friendlies against the Netherlands and Serbia.
It’s the first time he’s joining up with the national team, since his cardiac arrest during Euro 2020.

The European Union has now joined the UK government in imposing sanctions on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, as part of measures targeting Russia.
UEFA is now seeking clarification about how the sanctions may impact Chelsea…although its understood it will not affect their Champions League tie against Lille tomorrow.

Sources say Mo Salah could run down his Liverpool contract, if the club refuses to offer him an improved new deal.
Its believed the striker is not desperate to leave this summer, and is prepared to wait until he can leave as a free agent at the end of next season.

Formula One has changed its safety car rules…meaning all lapped cars must now un-lap themselves before a restart.
This is to prevent a repeat of last year’s season finale in Abu Dhabi…where a controversial safety car decision saw Max Verstappen pip Lewis Hamilton to the world title.
