Italy are European champions!
They defeated England 3-2 in a penalty shootout in this morning’s Euro 2020 final.
The match had ended 1-all after regulation and extra-time.
Luke Shaw had given England an early lead…only for Leonardo Bonucci to equalize for The Azzurri in the second half.
Gianluiggi Donnarumma was the hero for the Italians in the shootout, making the crucial save from Bukayo Saka’s final spot kick.
Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho had earlier also missed their penalties.
This is only Italy’s second European Championship title, having last won it in 1968.
The Italians now have six major trophies to their name – two Euro titles and four World Cups.
As for England, their 55-year wait for a major trophy continues.
